The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdulfatah Kasim Mahmoud, has reaffirmed the strength of Somalia’s strategic relationship with Türkiye, particularly in the security and military sector, while accusing unnamed actors of attempting to undermine Türkiye’s role in the country.
The minister said efforts to portray Türkiye negatively were being driven by political interests and what he described as paid journalists, arguing that such campaigns would not weaken bilateral relations.
Addressing the recent explosions in Doolow, Gedo region, Mahmoud rejected claims that the incident resulted from an airstrike or bombardment. He said preliminary security information indicated that explosives being prepared inside a house detonated, rather than the incident being caused by an operation involving the federal government or another external party.
The ministry previously announced the formation of an urgent investigative committee to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible. Authorities have also urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims until the investigation is completed.
