The second round of negotiations between Somalia and Ethiopia, mediated by Turkey, is scheduled to take place in Ankara on Monday. This follows an initial round of talks aimed at addressing ongoing regional tensions.
In a brief statement released ahead of the meeting, the Turkish presidential palace expressed its expectation for “concrete results” from the upcoming discussions. The talks are anticipated to focus on resolving disputes and fostering cooperation between the two East African nations.
Somalia’s position was reaffirmed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who emphasized Somalia’s readiness to engage in “economic and development cooperation” with Ethiopia. However, he stressed that such partnerships must respect Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and adhere to international law and norms.
The resumption of talks in Ankara reflects Turkey’s continued commitment to facilitating dialogue and seeking peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts. Both nations are expected to work towards agreements that balance their mutual interests while upholding the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
