Somali National University Holds Forum on Artificial Intelligence Development.

The Somali National University’s Somali National Artificial Intelligence Center (SNAIC) held a forum to discuss key priorities for advancing artificial intelligence in Somalia.

The forum brought together representatives from universities, technology companies and other institutions to exchange views on strengthening Somalia’s AI foundations and developing a coordinated approach to AI development.

Discussions focused on five key priorities: establishing dedicated AI centers or offices; developing policies for responsible AI use; promoting AI literacy; producing highly skilled Somali AI experts; and developing locally driven AI solutions for health, agriculture, education and business.

SNAIC Director Dr. Mohamed Sheikh Adam Isaaq highlighted the need to invest in highly skilled experts, strengthen AI literacy and promote responsible use of AI, while encouraging institutions to develop solutions addressing Somalia’s needs and priorities.

Prof. Fuad Mire Hassan, Deputy Rector for Planning and Development at the Somali National University, who opened the forum, stressed the importance of coordination and stronger cooperation among universities, government, businesses and other stakeholders.

The forum concluded with recommendations and defined responsibilities for stakeholders, which will form the basis of a policy brief to be shared with the Federal Government of Somalia, higher education institutions, other institutions and businesses. SNAIC will coordinate follow-up on the recommendations.
