The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has extended condolences to the President of the Republic of Djibouti, H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh, and to the government, the brotherly people of Djibouti and the family of the late Minister of Defence of the Republic of Djibouti, Hassan Omar Mohamed, may Allah have mercy on him.
In his message, the President said the deceased was a national servant who had played a visible role in developing Djibouti’s defence institutions, reinforcing security and strengthening his country’s contribution to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, and who had taken an active part in efforts to support Somalia. He affirmed that Somalia stands with the Republic of Djibouti in this time of grief, pointing to the deep bonds of brotherhood, cooperation and partnership between the two countries and their peoples.
Earlier, the Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, had extended his own condolences to the President, government and people of Djibouti and to the family of the late minister. He described the deceased as a national servant who had served his country tirelessly over many years, playing a visible role in leading and developing Djibouti’s defence institutions and in strengthening his country’s support for efforts to restore peace and stability in Somalia. The Minister also conveyed his condolences to the Djiboutian armed forces and to the Djiboutian troops serving with the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The messages reflect the close and longstanding ties between Somalia and Djibouti, two neighbouring states bound by shared history, faith and a common interest in the security of the Horn of Africa. Djibouti has been a consistent partner in Somalia’s stabilisation, including through its contribution to the African Union mission, and the passing of a senior figure in its defence establishment was met in Mogadishu as the loss of a friend to Somalia.
May Allah grant the deceased Jannah, and grant his family and the people of Djibouti patience and faith.
