The 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union concluded today in Istanbul, bringing together parliamentary representatives from around the world to discuss key global challenges.
Somalia was represented by a delegation of federal lawmakers from both houses of Parliament, led by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow.
This year’s assembly focused on critical issues including global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, democracy, and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Addressing the forum, Abshirow highlighted the importance of fostering hope, ensuring peace, and safeguarding justice for future generations. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to advancing peace, strengthening state-building, and protecting citizens’ rights.
The assembly also featured a series of bilateral meetings and high-level discussions. During the event, Anda Filip of Romania was elected as the new Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
