Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi chaired a ministerial-level meeting focused on Somalia’s preparedness for the potential impacts of El Niño 2026–2027 and strengthening nationwide coordination.
The meeting approved the National El Niño Preparedness Plan 2026–2027, which brings together the responsibilities and efforts of federal institutions, Federal Member States and local authorities to ensure coordinated preparedness based on forecasting and early-warning systems.
The plan focuses on strengthening early warning and risk monitoring, as well as protecting people, livestock, agriculture, water resources and critical infrastructure.
The Deputy Prime Minister Jibril urged all relevant institutions to implement the plan effectively and swiftly, emphasizing coordination, accountability, early action, response and recovery.
