The Military Court of the Armed Forces has sentenced former Somali National Army soldier Cabdi Aadan Ibraahim to death by firing squad for the killing of the late Yusuf Ahmed Abdi.
According to the Chairman of the First Instance Military Court of the Armed Forces, Col. Hassan Ali Nur Shuute, the defendant was accused of killing Yusuf Ahmed Abdi, a construction worker, on July 26, 2026.
The court heard that the victim was travelling home in a tuk-tuk he had hired after finishing work when the defendant stopped the vehicle in the area of Garasbaaley District. Following a dispute, the defendant fired two shots, one of which struck the victim in the abdomen, killing him at the scene.
The defendant reportedly attempted to flee and hid in a tree near the scene, but civilians directed security forces to his location, leading to his arrest.
Following an investigation, the Office of the Military Prosecutor requested that the case be brought before the court, which was approved on September 16, 2026.
After allowing sufficient time for both sides in the case to present their arguments, the Military Court issued the death sentence on Sunday as retribution (qisaas) for the killing of Yusuf Ahmed Abdi.
