Second Phase of Constitutional Review Consultations Launched in Somalia

Somalia embarked on the second phase of consultations for the review of Chapters 5-9 of its Constitution. This critical initiative aims to engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including citizens, to gather diverse perspectives on constitutional amendments.

The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, in collaboration with the Independent Constitutional Review Commission, is leading this effort to ensure comprehensive input from all sectors of society. As part of the review process, officials will undertake visits to federal member states (FMS) and SSC-Khatumo to facilitate dialogue and collaboration.

This phase follows initial consultations and is designed to deepen the engagement with local communities and leaders. The review will focus on key constitutional chapters related to governance, rights, and administrative structures, seeking to address any existing gaps and enhance the overall legal framework.

The outcome of these consultations is expected to play a significant role in shaping Somalia’s constitutional future
