Somali Prime Minister, IRC Chief David Miliband Hold High-Level Talks on Boosting Drought Response and Humanitarian Support.

Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday held meeting with David Miliband, CEO of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), to discuss urgent measures to scale up humanitarian aid for communities hit hardest by Somalia’s ongoing drought.

The two leaders focused on strengthening coordination to reach the 4.4 million Somalis currently in need of emergency assistance. The Prime Minister expressed the government’s deep concern over the worsening situation and called for faster, more targeted relief operations.

Miliband praised Somalia’s efforts and pledged that the IRC would increase humanitarian support, expand drought-response programs, and continue contributing to long-term resilience projects. He also committed to advocating globally for greater international attention to Somalia’s crisis.

Prime Minister Hamza welcomed the IRC’s renewed commitments, stressing that aid efforts must be aligned with sustainable solutions that help Somali families achieve stability and self-reliance.

The meeting comes as the government intensifies its nationwide drought-response coordination to protect vulnerable communities.
