Minister of Family Meets UN Human Rights Delegation in Mogadishu.

The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, held talks in Mogadishu with Maymuchka Lauriston, Deputy Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Head of its East Africa office, alongside her delegation.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and OHCHR, implementing the UN Human Rights Council resolution A/HRC/RES/60/28, and advancing a two-year action plan for 2026–2027. The meeting also highlighted efforts to accelerate the establishment of an official OHCHR office in Somalia.

The engagement is part of broader efforts by the ministry to promote human rights in the country, following notable progress in recent years, including the restoration of Somalia’s independent human rights framework and the establishment of a national human rights commission.
