The government of Somalia has confirmed that it has received the shipment of weapons from Egypt.

Somalia’s Minister of Defense Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor stressed that Somalia will independently decide its internal and external allies, as it knows its own interests well.

The minister made this statement when a cargo ship carrying a large amount of military aid from the Egyptian government arrived in the country.

“We know our interests and we will choose between our allies and our enemies. Thank you Egypt,” said Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor.

The minister said that the support of the army underscores the strengthening of the defense relationship between Somalia and Egypt.

He said that they have received from Egypt the largest shipment of modern weapons that Somalia receives from its international allies, and he said that it is a sign of a further step to strengthen the increasing influence of Somalia on the world stage.

In August, Egypt and Somalia signed a defense agreement and a military cooperation protocol, when Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Cairo.

The agreement reaffirms the commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral relations and strengthening regional security.

According to Ahmed Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, this defense agreement will shape the country’s strategy in the fight against terrorism.
